How to Make Your Extensions Last 12 Months

June 5, 2026LSIMIXIU Team

One set of quality tape-in extensions can last 12 months — 3-4 re-applications from one purchase.

Month 1-2: First Application

  • Wait 48 hours before first wash
  • Sleep with hair in a loose braid
  • Wash every 3-4 days with sulfate-free shampoo
  • Condition mid-lengths to ends only

Month 2-3: First Move-Up

After 6-8 weeks, extensions grow out. Time for a move-up:

  1. Apply tape remover to each bond
  2. Slide extensions off gently
  3. Clean old adhesive
  4. Apply new replacement tape ($5-10)
  5. Re-apply closer to roots

The Care Routine

Daily: Brush gently with a loop brush. Silk pillowcase.

Every 3-4 days: Sulfate-free wash. Condition ends only.

Weekly: Leave-in conditioner on ends. Check bonds.

Monthly: Deep conditioning treatment (30 min).

What Shortens Life

  • Sulfate shampoo
  • Oil near tape bonds
  • Sleeping with wet hair
  • Heat above 180°C
  • Chlorine without protection

The Math

One set at $50-$75, used 3-4 times over 12 months = $6 per week for gorgeous hair.
